Panad, tea room on the harbour

This is the second entry for #dungeon23. I haven’t technically started on the megadungeon yet as I will begin releasing rooms within the airship starting on the first of January. For the time being, I’m laying some foundations. Panad is potential starting location for players about to board the GLS Anghymodlon. These entries aren’t meant to be fleshed out, but whatever I can manage in a day.

Panad

  • Overlooking the bay harbour where the Anghymodlon is docked.
  • Along the bay of Caer Isel.
  • Serves tea primarily but functions as a cafe.
  • Automatons buzz through the air with tea trays to deliver food, but a human is somewhere nearby if things go wrong.
  • Clinking of knives and forks, general chatter. The whirring of blades and coffee machines. The coffee machine and toaster are sentient, steam-powered beings and frequently fight for attention.

Description

The Panad Cafe is a lovely two-storey building. It sits along a row of terraced commercial buildings overlooking Caer Isel’s harbour where the GLS Anghymodlon is currently moored, ready for its much anticipated take off and international flight. It is lavishly decorated with brass and copper fittings, clockwork gears and a touch of the old. The foundations of the Panad date back to the city’s medieval period.

Much of the wall facing the harbour has been replaced with large window panes offering stunning views of the bay and harbour below. Much of it is currently obscured and in the shadow of the giant, 12-deck airship.

The Menu offers variety of teas, as well as traditional Iselian dishes such as Isel cakes and cawl (a hearty stew made with lamb or beef). The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, with soft lighting and a warm, homely feel. It is a delightful and unique place to drink tea and take in the surroundings.

Siana Baughn Well travelled and well read, Siana works at the cafe to fund their worldwide travelling. They missed the opportunity to ride on the GLS Anghymodlon this time but they are hoping to get a ticket the next time it’s docked at Caer Isel.

Rumours

  1. The King is so keen to show of the Anghymodlon that he has rushed construction.
  2. The Anghymodlon was hand-painted. It took ten years.
  3. A few people died during the construction due to poor working conditions.
  4. An identical ship has been built in secret.
  5. The last ship in the company went up in flames. Some people think it was an insurance job. Luckily it never left the harbour.

  7. Both the Iselian football and rugby teams are boarding the ship today to compete internationally.
  8. Somebody was fried while holding the lightning rod at the top of the ship.
