Into The Mist

Into The Mist is a hack of Yochai Gal's Cairn and is a Mark of the Odd game. While the full book is in development, I am testing the system with a player-facing pamphlet which is free to the community.

What's new?

The key innovation here is that Health and Hit Protection have been merged into the ability scores themselves. Power is both direct/physical rolls and the character's health, while Guard is discrete/agile rolls and the character's hit protection. 

As your Power is reduced, so does your ability to pass checks. This version uses the Welsh spelling.

What's in store?

The plan is to eventually release the book and player pamphlets in all of the Celtic languages. Since Wales is my home, it will be first. Then the game will be released in Scots and Irish Gaelic, Cornish, Breton and Manx. 

To do

The text refers to items that aren't currently available, such as the panic table and artefacts. I will update this page with those tables soon. 

Much of the writing in the pamphlet is taken from Yochai Gal's Cairn. The inclusion of the Ogham table was inspired by Runecairn from ByOdinsBeard. The full book will expand on the information here.

Into the Mist is based on Into the Odd by Chris McDowall and Cairn by Yochai Gal, while the "Direct, Discrete & Device" ability system is borrowed from COSMIC by TheGiftOfGabes.

Into the Mist takes inspiration from others in the Mark of the Odd genre of games such as Runecairn, Liminal Horror, Monolith and more. It also takes inspiration from Knave by Ben Milton.
